Our Story
By: Meghan and the parenthesis by Brandon
Well it all started when we started talking about where our relationship would be going and we knew that it would eventually end up in marriage. That day finally came on February 13th, 2007. Brandon left a note in my car on my front seat telling me to be ready at 9 pm to go to a movie. I went home and made cookies for my interns not really thinking anything was up. I was ready by 9 pm and he came to pick me up.
We went to see “Freedom Writers” in Tyler. When we got to the movie and he was acting normal. He did get a couple calls during the movie, but I didn’t think anything of it. He got up and called his roommate back. We finished watching the movie and left. On the way home his roommate called him and asked when we would be there. I didn’t know what they were talking about. He used his roommate’s car as an excuse saying that he would have it back in fifteen minutes. Then he told me that he wanted to give me something “little” at his house. (It was little alright – Brandon)
When we got to his house it was about 12:30 am, which was technically Valentine’s Day. Before we got out of the car he told me that I needed to shut my eyes and that he would guide me into the house. He opened the front door and all I heard was the Nora Jones song, “Come Away with Me” playing in the background. I knew that something was different about that night when we walked in the door.
I opened my eyes and saw a trail of tea light candles and rose petals on the floor. The trail led to the living room where the fire was going and as I looked around the room I saw daisies and roses everywhere. The room was absolutely beautiful. I looked around the room while he went into his room to get a camera. He actually went in there to put the ring in his pocket. (I shouldn’t have put the ring in my pocket, I couldn’t get it out – Brandon) He came out and said that the batteries in the camera were dead (they really were, I wasn’t lying)
We sat down by the fire on a blanket and reflected on where our relationship has taken us. We talked for about ten minutes and then he said, “Do you want some water?” I said sure and he went to get the water for us. (This was my chance to get the ring out of my pocket, and Meg never noticed) He came back over and sat back down with the water and we continued to talk about what we had gone through in the past year and a half.
I still couldn’t tell that it was coming at this point. He didn’t act nervous at all. I thought the gift was him doing all of the stuff with the decorations and flowers in the room. I thought that was enough. But, he knew that he had something else in mind(DUHHH!!!)
He said that there was one more thing that we needed to talk about before he took me home. I began to wonder if it was what I had been waiting for, for so long. Then next thing I knew he was on one knee saying, “Meghan, will you marry me?” I immediately began crying and saying yes with a hug. (no she didn’t!! She cried for like twenty minutes and then said YES! Not really but it felt like it). He put the ring on my finger and we hugged for a while.
Then his roommates all came out into the living room and were all excited for us. I was still in shock and kept looking at my ring. I squealed and kept hugging Brandon. We both were excited that we finally could head into a life together.
The End or should we say the continuation of…
